Amity

Working on the Amity.

Darren and the boys have been re-caulking the deck. Caulking is a process used on timber and teak decks. A cotton treaded rope in expertly wedged in between the wooden boards that creates a completely watertight and weather-resistant seal. This craft has been used for hundreds of years using specialised tools.

This project was completed in March 2019 and the Amity is re-open for tourists and locals to enjoy.

This replica of the Amity is a tourist attraction. Build in dedication to the original Amity which was a 148-ton brig used in several notable voyages of exploration and settlement in Australia in the early nineteenth century.  The Amity sailed from Sydney on 9th November 1826, carrying a party under the command of Major Edmund Lockyer, who had orders to form a settlement at King George Sound in Albany, Western Australia.

After a difficult voyage, the first half battling through heavy weather in Bass Strait and the second enduring the summer heat of the westward run, the brig reached Princess Royal Harbour on Christmas Day. Find out more about the Amity and where to visit here.
